Sleep

One of the best things you can do when you’re sick is to get plenty of rest. Make sleep a priority and allow yourself to sleep at least 8 hours, if not more to help recover from a cold or flu.

Stay Hydrated

Keeping hydrated is essential when you’re sick. Fluids help thin mucus, keep your throat moist, and prevent dehydration. If you are having trouble drinking water, consider adding electrolytes to your water, or see below for helpful tea recommendations.

Nutritious Diet:

To support healing, eat foods that are as nutrient-dense as possible such as:

  • Bone broth
  • Nuts and seeds (pumpkin seeds are high in zinc!)
  • Berries for antioxidants
  • Protein-rich foods – meat, tofu, beans, etc

Avoid pro-inflammatory foods like processed foods, added sugars, or fried foods.

If you are experiencing lot’s of mucus formation, consider cutting out dairy products while sick, as dairy increases mucus production in some individuals.

Teas

Teas can be very soothing and have immune supporting properties. Here are some of my favorite teas:

  • Throat Coat for a sore throat
  • Elderberry or Echinacea for immune-boosting
  • Ginger tea for anti-inflammatory benefits
  • Peppermint tea for congestion

Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements

There are many vitamins, minerals, and herbs that have been studied to help support your immune system by preventing illnesses or helping reduce the severity or negative outcomes of colds, the flu and viruses. Check out some of my favorite immune products:

Other Remedies

Several other remedies can help alleviate symptoms and promote recovery:

  • Neti Pot: A neti pot can help clear nasal congestion and sinus pressure by flushing out mucus and allergens. Make sure to use distilled or sterilized water to avoid any infections. Use this neti-pot for the easiest and most effective experience!
  • Nebulizer: If you have a nebulizer, using a saline solution can help moisten your airways, making it easier to breathe and reducing coughing.
  • Sauna: A sauna can help relieve muscle aches and open up your airways. The warmth and steam can also promote relaxation and improve sleep.

Conclusion

When you’re feeling sick, taking proactive steps to care for your body can make a significant difference in how quickly you recover. Prioritize rest, stay hydrated, nourish your body with healthy foods, and use natural remedies to ease your symptoms.

Always consult with your healthcare provider if your symptoms worsen or if you have any concerns about your health.

Take care and get well soon!
