Summer is in full swing!
I’ve enjoyed hosting different events around Boston while also taking some time to sit in the sun and relax. I’m trying to make the most of the nice weather by going on daily walks, sitting on my porch to eat lunch, and making day trips to hike or go to the beach. If you have any fun book recommendations, send them my way!
1. Culture Pop Soda
You may have seen in the news that the popular “gut healthy” soda band Poppi is being sued due to their false claims that their soda is good for your gut (read more about the lawsuit here). Poppi uses a prebiotic fiber called inulin, which for some can actually cause bloating. People with bacterial overgrowth, like SIBO, would likely feel worse after drinking a Poppi.
Instead, try Culture Pop! This “soda” brand has been my favorite from the beginning. They are a local Massachusetts brand and use a probiotic strain called Bacillus subtilis. For most people, even those with GI concerns, Bacillus subtilis will not cause bloating!
2. Matcha
I’ve finally jumped on the matcha trend! I tend to avoid caffeine, but have been feeling called towards matcha. I love making warm or cold matcha lattes and am enjoying trying out different brands and cafes that serve matcha. For now, my go-to is a warm matcha latte with coconut milk. Here are some brands of matcha to try:
3. Badger Sunscreen
This is my yearly reminder to try a non-toxic zinc-based sunscreen! I love the Badger Sunscreen for a few reasons – it’s a local company with great values, it doesn’t leave a bad white film, and works really well! Fair warning, old or expired sunscreens will leave quite a thick white film on your skin, so make sure to buy a fresh bottle this summer. You can find Badger online or even at Whole Foods stores.
