Many people with gluten intolerance or Celiac Disease have obvious gut symptoms like bloating, gas, or diarrhea/constipation. However, some individuals who have no gut symptoms experience other negative symptoms from gluten.
Here are some common symptoms I see that people with undiagnosed Celiac Disease or gluten intolerance have:

Skin:
- Rashes
- Keratosis pilaris
- Eczema
- Psoriasis
Brain:
- Migraines
- Brain fog
- Anxiety
- Low mood or mood swings
Other:
- Canker sores
- Chronic iron deficiency or other vitamin deficiencies
- Joint pain or arthritis
- Inability to lose weight or unable to gain weight
- Autoimmune diseases or chronic inflammatory conditions
- I find that many people with Hashimoto’s, IBD, and Rheumatoid Arthritis have some degree of gluten intolerance
What to do if you suspect you may have Celiac Disease or a gluten intolerance:
Here are some action steps to take if you suspect you may have a problem with gluten.
- Eliminate gluten completely for 3-4 months. Take note of if any symptoms resolve during the 3-4 months. Then, add gluten back in to see how you feel and if any symptoms return.
- Work with a practitioner to get a comprehensive stool test showing immune reaction to gluten or a food sensitivity test
- Ask your doctor for a Celiac Disease blood panel that includes tTG
