Hydrating Summer Electrolyte drink

June 24, 2023

Keep reading for a bright, fruity, AND deeply hydrating electrolyte drink!

Most clients I see are chronically dehydrated. This could be a result of too little water or too much water with not enough electrolytes. For example, some people aim for 100 oz of water per day but end up just as dehydrated as those who drink only a glass or two of water per day. When drinking such large amounts of water, you are likely missing essential electrolytes and minerals. Our water is meant to be filled with life and energy from electrolytes and minerals, as it would be in a spring river in nature. Our filtered and bottled water does not have the correct ratio of electrolytes and minerals. This leads to water flowing right back out of your body while leaving your cells dehydrated.

Signs you may be chronically dehydrated:

  • Constipation
  • Dry skin
  • Swelling in extremities, like the ankles
  • Exhaustion
  • Dizziness
  • Low or high blood pressure
  • Always feeling thirsty
  • You often forget to drink water throughout the day
  • Urine is dark yellow
  • Feeling like water is just passing through you
  • Food cravings

Signs of mineral deficiency:

  • Anxiety
  • Muscle cramps
  • Fatigue
  • Poor sleep
  • Imbalanced thyroid or sex hormones
  • Frequently sick
  • Poor tooth health
  • Frequently sick
  • Blood pressure irregularities
  • Loss of appetite
  • Slow wound healing
  • Hair loss
  • Brittle, breaking nails
  • Low bone density

Summer is the perfect time to work on your hydration! Why?

In the summer we naturally lose more water and more electrolytes when we sweat. This makes our need for proper hydration even more important.

However, I recommend adding at least a pinch of Redmond sea salt or your favorite sea salt to one of your glasses of water daily throughout the year. You may choose to increase the amount if you regularly do high-intensity workouts where you sweat a lot, use a sauna, or do coffee enemas

Here’s my refreshing and ultra-hydrating electrolyte summer beverage:

Enjoy it cold as a fun and refreshing drink throughout the day or as a mocktail in the evening!

Recipe:

  • 1 oz plain Coconut Water
  • 2 oz Pomegranate Juice
  • 8 oz soda water or sparkling water of your choice (I recommend Spindrift or a sparkling mineral water)
  • Juice from half a lime
  • 1 pinch of Redmond Sea Salt

Optional:

  • Fresh mint to garnish
  • 1/2 tsp unflavored Magnesium powder (ex: Natural Calm)
